Booking the best vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Terrapin Cottage: Oceanside with a private pool, ocean views, amazing sunrise &a has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
