How to get the best Nags Head vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Oceanfront
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Advice for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
