Tips and Tricks for getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Zane's Beach House: Oceanfront, amazing views, private hot tub and dog friendly. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
