Vacation rental booking tips:

Get the best value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • 250 ft from the beach
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
