Strategies to get the best Nags Head rental home experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Nags Head area. To get the best rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your group commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. OBX Ocean Cottage 5-Steps to Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
