Two other bedrooms are located right down the hall and share access to a full hall bath—one room containing a Queen bed with Cable TV and the other with Pyramid Bunk bed with a trundle and a Cable TV that is ideal for the kids. The giant deck spans the entire length of the home and is a great place for watching sunrises over the coast. For an even better view, climb up the crow's nest deck to the top floor and savor a expansive view of Nags Head.

To see the area's natural beauty, climb to the top of Jockey's Ridge State Park (the tallest living sand dune on the East Coast) or take a walk through the Nags Head Woods (a natural marine forest full of local flora and fauna). Several fishing piers line Nags Head's wide, open beaches and allow for anglers of any skill level to try their luck reeling in the biggest catch. Our top Nags Head vacation rental tips:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Nags Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the perfect vacation home in Nags Head:

  • Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 6009 The Merry Mermaid * 2 Min Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
