NEW FOR 2021/2022:

Major remodel (photos not completely refreshed) including a new roof, new HVAC/Heat pump, all new LV Plank floor throughout, new interior doors, casings, moldings, fresh paint, and new living room and dining area furnishings. Shudders in the bedrooms and new window shades throughout. Because of the new renovations, we are no longer accepting family pets in the home.

New Intelligent Televisions in all bedrooms except the bunk room. The Spectrum app is installed where you’ll get basic cable and local channels. You have the ability to login to any streaming service you have a personal account with.

****LINENS AND TOWELS ARE NOT PROVIDED****
You can choose to bring your own if you have them, or we recommend renting from Ocean Atlantic Units (they'll drop off clean linens and pick up when you depart). Although some will be supplied, be prepared to bring the essentials (paper towels, toilet paper, detergent, soap, shampoo, etc.)
****LINENS AND TOWELS ARE NOT PROVIDED****

Savor this peaceful bungalow which is only a few mins. walking distance to the ocean beach access. If you’re looking for a calming week where you can savor time with your family in the quieter part of Nags Head, this is it. We are located in South Nags Head, near MP20. The home is located off the main beach road on a cul-de-sac. Ideal for kids to ride their bicycles with little worry of traffic zooming by. The beach is only a few mins. walk across the street to the public beach access. This is one of the few beach accesses that doesn't allow car parking so it is never busy.

*Note: We have a Ring security camera flood light located at the front door which helps us keep an eye on the home while we’re away.

We provide access to beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys, a cooler, body boards, etc. as well as a cart to wheel everything across the street. Appreciate a nice hot shower in the enclosed outdoor shower when you return from a long day at the beach!

Features include: Central air and heat, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, electric range/oven, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi guest access, ceiling fans in every room but the bunk beds. All beds have newer beds, quilts and pillows. Hypoallergenic bed and pillow covers as well.

We visit often as a family ourselves, and have tried to make the home as comfortable as possible. There is plenty to do in South Nags Head. There are four beach cruiser bicycles that you are more than welcome to use. Ride down to Fish Head's Bar & Grille at the Outer Banks Fishing Pier for happy hour, or ride all the way to the market and back. Drive only 10-mins. south and watch the charter boats bring in the day's catch at Oregon Inlet. There are a few great rental places close by (Bank's Surf Supply, Kitty Hawk Watersports, and Cavalier Surf Shop) for bicycles, boards, or anything else you may need. There are numerous seafood markets as well as the Outlet Mall if any shopping is needed. Cahoon's market is only a few mins. away for any fast grocery needs, otherwise Food Lion, Fresh Market, and Publix are a short drive down the bypass.

COVID-19 Update:
Our cleaning service is acting in accordance with the CDC guidelines for the COVID 19 virus, including disinfecting high-touch surfaces in household and common areas (e.g. tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, phones, touch screens, remote controls, keyboards, handles, etc). They use a disinfecting spray/mist for pillows, bed pads and bedspreads.

Please visit the Dare County, NC website for all updates regarding business and restaurant openings.

Thanks for your understanding.

Getting the best vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • To get the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Nags Head attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing a perfectrental:

  • Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. South Nags Head cottage - walk to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head destination you love, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.

The Cotton Gin

The Cotton Gin has stood in the same location since 1929, starting as a working cotton gin and growing to a gift store with 4 locations. Visitors are treated to a unique shopping experience in our main store in Jarvisburg, as well as our beach stores in Corolla, Duck, and Nags Head. Explore room after room filled with décor for your home and coastal fashions for both men and women. Discover the brands you really want, like, Vera Bradley, Vineyard Vines, La Mer Luex, Simply Southern, Lindsay Phillips, Scout, Pandora, Kameleon, Brighton, Spartina, Tommy Bahama, Southern Tide and Salt Life and Old Guys Rule - all under one roof!

Don’t forget the gourmet market, or shop our beautiful linens for your bedroom and bath. We also feature coastal books and fine art, or just a whimsical fun gift to bring home to family and friends. Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
