Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:

Getting the best value:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • To start, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Sandpiper's Retreat: Soundfront, hot tub, pool table and Community amenities has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
