Cost saving strategies:

  • Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
