Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. To get the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Nags Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront hideaway with amazing views, central AC, foosball, private W\/D, deck has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Tips for your stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
