Tips for getting the best vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Nags Head. Booking in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing the best rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Saltwater Solace: Oceanside, Private Pool, Elevator, Hot Tub, Pool Table has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head beach you simply love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
