Strategies for getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Nags Head. To book the largest rental home within budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick the best Nags Head rental home:

  • Select vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Flying Colors: Private Heated Pool, Hot Tub, Oceanside, Close to the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
