How to get the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Nags Head. Reserve your Nags Head rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Perfect & Affordable Beach Vacation Home! Awesome Sunset Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
