Tricks and tips for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Nags Head area. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Eighty-Sea: Ocean View, Community Pool has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
