Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Selecting and booking your Nags Head rental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Shell Cottage (Formerly Surfrider): Oceanfront, Walkway to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
