Update for 2025! A brand new private pool will be installed just in time for the opening of spring pool season. New amenities for 2025 will also include a hot tub and outdoor recreation area. Photos coming in early April!

If you're in search of unobstructed ocean vistas and direct access to the beach, look no further than Shell Cottage. This freshly refreshed oceanfront home in South Nags Head features a private walkway that makes getting to and from the beach painless and convenient.

The reverse floor plan at Shell Cottage takes full advantage of the expansive ocean vistas, which can be adored from every room on the top level. Stylish and beach-friendly LVT floor is installed throughout, and the open-concept layout accepts everybody to spend quality time together even while preparing meals in the kitchen. Dine al fresco on the screened porch while watching the sun go down. After dinner, mix drinks at the wet bar to serve on the oceanfront deck. Take the stairs down to the mid-level and use the private walkway to the beach for an evening walk by the shore break.

All four bedrooms are conveniently located on the mid-level, and the two master suites provide direct access to a covered oceanfront deck. Rinse off in the enclosed outdoor shower on your way back from the beach and use the dry entry from the ground level, where you can drop off your towels and swimsuits in the laundry area.

Located at milepost 19.5 in South Nags Head, Shell Cottage is a mile south of the Outer Banks Fishing Pier and Fish Head's Bar and Grille, where you can order food and drinks on the oceanfront while listening to live music. Coquina Beach, part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and a favorite local spot for fishing and surfing, is a six-min. drive away. From there, discover Bodie Island Lighthouse or head south for a day trip to Ocracoke.

Animals allowed. No smoking/vaping. Please refer to the Rental Agreement while reviewing Rules & Policies for pool opening/closing dates and pool heat information, including details regarding the optional pool heat fee.

Vacation rental home tips:

How to get the best value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Booking in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Finding the perfect rental home in Nags Head:

  • Start by having your group choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
