Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Booking your Nags Head vacation home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the perfect rental home:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Charming Cottage in South Nags Head, 800 feet from the Ocean has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
