Our top Vacation rental home tips:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Nags Head area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by having your group agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Cape Hatteras Cottage:Semi-Oceanfront, Private Hot Tub, Access to Community Pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
