About this Property

The Egret's Nest is waterfront on the Roanoke Sound and adjoins the 500 acre Jockey's Ridge State Park. Fronting on arguably the most gorgeous stretch of sound-shore beach of the entire Outer Banks, the Egret's Nest is a great location for wind-surfers, kayakers, hang-gliders and bird-watchers. The Sound shore near the Egrets Nest is a great place for kids to play (and parents relax). The shallow sound waters don't have the currents and waves of the ocean and we never have "red flag" days!
The location of the Egrets Nest is one of the best wind-surfing launch sites on the entire east coast. It's also a great spot for modest sailboats. Vacationers will savor the peaceful and privacy of the Egrets Nest location. While the site has no adjacent neighbor to the south, the vast open waters of the Roanoke Sound to the west, and nearly a mile of Jockey's Ridge State Park to the north and east: it is shared by the Austin residence as shown on the site plan. The Egrets Nest is attached by a modest ten foot common wall to the Austin's private residence. The pier and driveway are shared. The parking and entrance are separate and private.

Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Nags Head. Booking in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the perfect rental home in the Nags Head area:

  • Start by having your family agree to date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Cozy sound front cottage in Nags Head! Incredible views and right next to JRSP! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
