Tips and Tricks to get the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental:

  • To start, have your family decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Charming home with ocean view & access to pool - close to beach & golf has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
