Summary:
Take a step back in to simpler times. Your family and friends will adore this 1950's Fisherman's bungalow charmer - a little hidden gem in OBX! The property has been painstakingly remodeled to bring back the good ol' days while providing guests with all the amenities of home.

We're dog friendly - WOOF! We do have a two dog max. policy (no cats, please!), but no additional pet costs. Located across the street from a beach access, the two bedroom, one bath bungalow sits on a semi-oceanfront lot. The building has been lifted so you can appreciate vistas of the sound, catch handsome sunsets, and watch kite-boarders in the distance. Other property features include WIFI, flat screen TVs (3), a well-outfitted kitchen, and a fire pit.

One of two cottages on site, the property is a part of one of the few bungalow courts still existing in Nags Head.

Thank you for considering Tandem Cottage!

Nags Head rental property booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer months are high season in the Nags Head area. Reserve your Nags Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Choosing the best vacation home:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Tandem Cottage: Cozy Coastal Cottage, Short Walk to the Sand! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, email the host before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
