Strategies for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the bestrental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.

  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head attraction you crave, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
