Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your group choose dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beach Boys: Oceanfront home with heated private pool, hot tub and game room with has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
