Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • To start, have your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 'Whale-N-Jennings' Milepost 11 Direct ocean access Friday to Friday has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
