How to find the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Waves for Days: Oceanfront Condo w\/ Pool Access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
