Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by having your family agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Unobstructed ocean views at this Nags Head home! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
