Nags Head vacation rental tips:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Summer Rental: Semi-oceanfront, Pool, Rec Room has 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is best for your group.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
