How to book the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • To book the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Nags Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the best vacation rental in Nags Head:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Serenity Now: Dog-Friendly Home in Golf Course Community w/ Water Views has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

Have a great stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
