Tricks and tips to get the best Nags Head rental home experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing your Nags Head vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Salty Paws-Walk to beach/Fenced Yard/Pet Friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
