Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are high season in the Nags Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Nags Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Start by having your group choose vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Pleasant Seaprise: Private Pool, 200ft. to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
