Tips for getting the best Nags Head rental experience:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • Reserve your Nags Head rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing and booking your Nags Head rental home:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Brown Pelican-Steps to beach, private pool, hot tub, community pool & tennis has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
