Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Tequila Sunrise-Oceanfront w/views, private pool, hot tub, rec room w/pool table has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you crave, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
