Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Book your Nags Head vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean side\/romance\/pet friendly\/dishwasher\/Nags Head has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
