Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. OBX Life 1 Ocean front with Private pool! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
