Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your Nags Head rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have deals for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Life Is Good: Ocean & Sound Views, Private Pool & Hot Tub, Quick Walk to Beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
