This classic OBX beachbox bungalow has been owned by the same family for numerous decades -- and cherished by our friends and other families who have selected this splendid NC coastal community as their vacation destination for years!

Centrally located at Milepost (MP) 10, and the ideal location of "Between the Highways" (158 & 12) , this well appointed and handsomely landscaped bungalow shares a modest, peaceful family-friendly street with a close-knit community of OBX regulars that is an simple 1.5 block walk to the Albatross Beach Access. The home features an open living arrangement with a sizable kitchen, dining, and family combo room adjacent to nice-sized covered front porch that includes constructed-in bench seating and two Adirondack rockers. Below the main floor of the bungalow is additional space for calming in the sectional couch and Nags Head handcrafted hammock. Imagine grabbing a cold drink from the little refrigerator and chilling out with your Buds at one of the constructed-in bar tables. Coming straight from the beach? No problem. Just hop in the outdoor shower that features two options: one on the sunny-outside and one on the covered-carport-side. A washer/dryer is available for your laundry needs. Beyond the carport is an extended backyard with plenty of room for you and your friends to play corn hole and other beach games with nice sun protection from a few mature trees. A constructed-in charcoal grille makes outdoor cooking painless and fun!

The historic gift shop, Ben Franklin, and the OBX favorite, Brew Thru, are a short walk away. Two major grocery stores -- Harris Teeter and Food Lion -- are close by. The bungalow is across the Hwy-158 from OBX ABC Store -- and within walking and cycling distance from local eatery favorites like Front Porch Cafe, Kill Devil Grille, Country Deli, The Spot Ice Cream and freshly opened Noosa Beach Grille, Swells'a Brewing Beer Company, and Mahi Mahi Island Grille. About one mile away, Dowdy Park offers five acres of recreation for every age and ability -- and, Wright Brother's National Memorial, Jockey's Ridge State Park, and Nags Head Woods Preserve are just three more of the many OBX outdoor activities to discover. Vacation passes are available for purchase at the YMCA-OBX should you wish to take in exercise and pool amenities while visiting.

Here to go fishing? Ideal. T.W.'s Bait & Tackle is located right across Hwy-158. Have a shopping itch? Excellent. T.J. Maxx is also right across Hwy-158 -- and the OBX Outlet Mall is 6 miles away. Surfing? Cool. Whalebone Surf Shop has it all right across Hwy-158. Rainy day? No worries. OBX Bowling Center is next to T.J. Maxx, Kill Devil Hills Multiplex is less than 4 miles down Hwy-158, and the bungalow has two Intelligent TVs. Need to do a bit of business? We have Staples across Hwy-158, next to T.J. Maxx, and the locally-owned OBX Shipping Center is a short drive away. Have a bigger family to accommodate? There are a number of similar beachbox cottages on Atlas Street that welcome families just like yours -- and, Marriott's TownPlace Suites is a few blocks away.

The towns of Manteo and Ocracoke (to the South) -- and, Duck and Corolla (to the North) are all great day trips and provide further enjoyment for the entire family -- but, to be honest, most folks who visit just like grabbing their choice of cold beverages, doing a bit of beach combing and body boarding, a lot of porch chatting and rocking, and creating lifelong memories with their friends and families. We find that every season on the OBX brings it own unique beauty -- and, we look forward to hosting you soon. We know you and your family will adore the OBX as much as we do!

* While we appreciate our four-legged friends, we are unable to host them at our bungalow. We savor you understanding. There are many OBX units that open their homes to your family pets. If this is a requirement for your travels, we ask that you book with a rental property that can best accommodate your furry appreciated one(s). Thank you!

** NOTE: Atlas Street neighbors actively participate in the Community Watch program as established by the Town of Nags Head Police Division. While we want all our guests to have fun in the OBX, we also want to ensure their safety and well-being. The Community Watch assists local law enforcement with monitoring and reporting disruptive and illegal activities. We greatly appreciate our guests adherence to all OBX ordinances -- and to helping us keep our community safe, our beaches clean, and Fish Wish the happiest beachbox bungalow to vacation while visiting the Outer Banks!

Nags Head vacation rental booking tips:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your Nags Head rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and pick a perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Fish Wish Cottage (MP 10): Centrally Located to Everything OBX! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.

Ben Franklin

Stop by Nags Head's Ben Franklin at Mile Post 10 on the Bypass where you will find everything you need for the beach! From Clothing, T-shirts and Swimwear to Boards, Chairs, Umbrellas and Tackle. You'll find it all…and of course, we have the best selection of Souvenirs anywhere on the Outer Banks. Enjoy your vacation! Independently owned by a member of one of the Outer Banks’ oldest families, the Ben Franklin store is stocked with just about everything a visitor would need to go to the beach.

Ben Franklin stores were once part of a five-and-dime retail empire, with about 2,500 locations across the country in its heyday. As decades passed and the times and customers began to change, many closed their doors, leading to fewer than 150 of these nostalgic shops. Nags Head Ben Franklin, however, has withstood the test of time and adapted to the needs of its customers to provide a memorable shopping experience on the Outer Banks.

Debbie Terry Tolson, manager of the Ben Franklin location in Nags Head, recalls working with former owner Tommie Daniels. Daniels’ father, Moncie Daniels, started the business in downtown Manteo in the early 1900s. The Daniels family has been a longstanding fixture in the Outer Banks business community—Moncie even sold gas to the Wright brothers in 1903.

Tommie, with an excellent business mind, saw the opportunity the new Bypass presented and, in 1977, he opened the Nags Head location of Ben Franklin. He was one of the first businesses on the Bypass,” Tolson says.In addition to a new location, the Ben Franklin store saw a new group of customers.

“People would come from all around because Tommie had a little bit of everything—it was more like a five and 10 then,” Tolson explains. “As he went to the beach, he began to get more tourists, so he started catering more and more to visitors.”

Today, the 21,000-square-foot souvenir shop quickly catches the attention of anyone driving by thanks to the ocean-themed mural that decorates the façade of the building, painted by local artist Rob Snyder. This Ben Franklin location has become the must-stop shop for both first-time visitors to the area and generations of families who escape to the Outer Banks annually.

Tolson credits the great prices and friendly customer service to the success of the location, which keeps families returning.“People come in all the time and tell me, ‘my grandmother or my grandfather used to bring me here and now I’m bringing my children,’” she shares. “One of my favorite parts about working here is seeing the people come back year after year.”
