How to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and pick a perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Enchanting home with kayaks, full kitchen, balcony, & W/D has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head destination you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a great stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
