Nags Head rental home tips:

When to visit Nags Head & When to reserve a Nags Head rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
