How to get the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental home & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in Nags Head. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Nags Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Oceanfront
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
