  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. Choosing the best vacation rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Tee-rific: Private Pool, Access to Free Oceanfront Parking has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
