Strategies to get the very best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Choosing and booking your prefect Nags Head vacation home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Take Five: Private Pool, Elevator, Game Room has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. message the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
