Tips and Tricks for getting the best Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Nags Head. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Nags Head attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Starfish Suite at Fin & Feather 2BR Condo with Sound Views + Close to Beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your group.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
