Getting the best rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Curlew's Call: Private Pool, Dog friendly, Spa has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If not, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
