Strategies to get the best rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Shellback Cottage Nags Head has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Call the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
