Finding the best rental experience:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Nags Head area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the rightrental home:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Turning Tide: Semi-Oceanfront, private pool & hot tub, rec room with pool table! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head beach you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
