Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the best rental in Nags Head:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Sandmann, Semi-Private Beach Access, Great View has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
