Strategies to get the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Screened Porch
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head destination you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
