Tips for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Reserve your Nags Head rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanside with hot tub and great outdoor space! Partial weeks available. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. message the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
