Our top Rental home tips and tricks:

Get the best value:

  • Book your Nags Head rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

How to select the best rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Capt Brad's: Oceanfront, walkway, dunetop deck, hot tub, elevator & YMCA access! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
