Rental property booking tips:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. NH7207 Heated Pool, Hot Tub, Walk to beach! Sunset Sound & Ocean Views! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
