Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Views, Private Beach Access and Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
